Streaming Super Power Spotify is being sued by Wixen Music Publishing for $1.6 Billion. This news was first reported via the Hollywood Reporter.
The publishing company is alleging that Spotify is allowing users to stream their songs without licenses and the artists aren’t being paid for their content.
Spotify recently tried to settle a class action lawsuit from songwriters that didn’t receive royalties from their streams for $43 Million. They also are currently handling another lawsuit that alleges the company has complied with Section 115 of the U.S. Copyright Act.
Wixen Music Publishing is home to material by Neil Young, Tom Petty, The Black Keys and many others. Songs in question be streamed includes Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin” and The Doors “Light My Fire” single.
